
Within the novel, the government possesses an obsessive need for economic growth. One of the greatest themes throughout the novel is consumerism. Without completely spoiling the book, I would like to identify some themes and ideas that are similar to the society in which we live. Over eighty years later, ideals explored in the text ring true today. Initially, Brave New World was written as a satirical novel that suggested what the future may consist of due to the advances of the 1920's. Brave New World, published in 1932, depicts a futuristic utopia in which the individual identity is sacrificed for the well-being of a state, and science and technology controls and subjugates its citizens. Prior to the invention of television and the world wide web, English writer Aldous Huxley explored topics in society that display more relevance in today's progressing world than the environment in which he lived.
